9 – Sunset View-STEPS FROM THE BEACH!

Front View

Sunset View-STEPS FROM THE BEACH!

‘Sunset View’ is one of the restored historic homes in Cape Charles. Listed in the ‘Off Route 13’ guide book as the house with 58 windows, it is ideally located just 300 feet from the beach. From the first and second floor sun rooms you have great views of the dunes and the bay as well as the spectacular Cape Charles sunsets.
When you are not enjoying being at ‘home’ or at the beach, there is a free fishing pier a block from the house and it is a short two block walk to the main street that has the Gull Hummock Gourmet Shop and Kelly’s Gingernut Pub (a converted bank building with seating in the vault and everything from burgers to prime rib). In the next block you will find the public library, , the Brown Dog Ice Cream Shop (all the ice cream is made on the premises), and several gift and art shops. Not to be missed is Watson’s almost world famous hardware. It is the old fashioned kind where you can find just about everything you want or need and a lot you don’t (I just bought a sausage stuffer there). Next to Watson’s is the Hook-U-Up gourmet take out and next to that is the Bad Girlz Collective, a gift shop with women’s fashions and loads of gifts. Next comes the Cape Charles Coffee House that is in a must see restored haberdashery. They serve breakfast and lunch and fabulous homemade desserts and pastries. Roberta Romeo the proprietor makes all the scones and muffins and cakes or pies herself.

In the next block is the restored Palace Theater and The Lemon Tree Art gallery and gift shop, Destinatiion 23310 and The Boardwalk are great gift and all things Cape Charles shops and several other shops including Bailey’s Bait and Tackle. You also don’t want to miss Periwinkles, a higher end consignment shop; Drizzles, a specialty shop where you can taste various olive oils, balsamic, salts and spices. Moonrise Jewelry has some very unusual pieces that are manufactured on sight and sold around the country and the At Alltitude Gallery has spectacular aerial photography printed on aluminum.

Back at ‘home’ the wide front porch offers loads of seating with a number of rocking chairs. A great place to relax and watch the sun go down across the bay. Inside the home there is plenty of room to spread out or to congregate. The living room is brightly decorated with comfortable seating and the first floor sun room is right off the living room. There are three tables and plenty of seating in the huge dining room but there is also a screened dining porch on the rear of the house. The large kitchen is fully equipped and also has a small table that seats four. A convenient half bath and a laundry room are also located on the first floor.
When it is time to retire, there are four sleeping areas on the second floor. The queen master bedroom has its own bath with glass shower. There is a second queen bedroom as well as a big bedroom that has three twin beds and a queen bed and room to spare. A smaller forth bedroom has a twin bed and a crib along with a writing desk. The hall bath has a tub/shower combination.
Not to be outdone by the first floor, the second floor has a sun room with views that are almost unmatched in Cape Charles.
Among the dining options are Kelly’s Gingernut Pub, The Cape Charles Coffee House, Rayfield’s Pharmacy (breakfast and lunch), the Oyster Farm at Kings CreekMarina, The Shanty on the Town harbor, and the Coach House at the golf course. The Hook U Up gourmet take out also has terrific dine in options by Chef Tim Brown. In addition, there are a number of options outside of town.
Golf cart rentals are available for getting around town and they are great fun. There are also bike rentals, jet ski rentals and even a good size jet boat available for rent. There are fishing charters out of the town harbor, Kings Creek Marina and Cherrystone.
Kayak rentals are available as well as guided kayak tours including a kayak winery tour to award winning Chatham Vineyard.
We are about an hour from the Virginia Beach ocean front and 1.5 hours from Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and the Yorktown Victory Center.
